Spoiler: Trump is trying to fast-track USA into an autocracy. He’s attacking the judiciary, the media, purging federal agencies, the military, the departments of defence, homeland security, justice, and state to make sure that the high ranking positions there are loyal to him and not the Constitution. It makes no difference to the Republican party that Trump’s government is made up of the most incompetent, ignorant and imbecile people in the USA, because most republicans have jelly instead of spines.
Liberty is arrested by Trump.

I asked my preferred AI software the question “Is Trump trying to turn USA into an autocracy?“.
Here is the reply I received.
Based on recent developments and expert analyses, there are strong indications that President Trump is attempting to steer the United States towards a more autocratic form of government during his second term.
Since taking office in January 2025, Trump has implemented a series of actions that have significantly altered traditional government functions and raised concerns about the country's democratic foundations. These actions include:
Reshaping foreign policy: Trump has been abandoning long-standing alliances with democratic nations and aligning the U.S. with autocratic regimes, particularly Russia.
Consolidating executive power: The administration has been bypassing federal checks and balances, concentrating power within the executive branch.
Undermining democratic institutions: Trump has pardoned over 1,500 individuals convicted for their involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, signaling that traditional laws may not apply to his supporters.
Purging the federal administration: Citing "integrity, competence, and loyalty" as guiding values, Trump has initiated a sweeping purge of federal employees.
Politicizing justice: There are plans to use the Justice Department and FBI for political purposes.
Experts draw parallels between Trump's actions and those of autocratic leaders in other countries, such as Viktor Orbán in Hungary. However, it's important to note that the United States' decentralized system of governance, including state and local governments, lifetime appointments for federal judges, and First Amendment protections for the media, may provide significant resistance to a complete autocratic takeover.
While Trump's actions have raised serious concerns about the future of American democracy, the country's institutional resilience and the limited time frame of his term (effectively two years until the 2026 midterms) may constrain his ability to fully consolidate autocratic power. Nevertheless, the situation remains fluid and continues to be a subject of intense scrutiny and debate among political analysts and constitutional experts.
The comparison to Orbán’s autocratisation of Hungary is made also by Staffan Lindberg who has been the head of Gothenburg University’s resarch project about democracy, Varieties of Democracy. However, Trump moves much faster than Orbán did. Lindberg calls Trump’s measures a palace coup and says that Trump with 99% probability will abolish democracy in USA.
Trump attacks USA
Varities of Democracy recently published its annual Democracy Report. This year it is titled “25 Years of Autocratization – Democracy Trumped?“ The report contains analyses of developments upto 2024, so Trump’s actions since his inaugeration are not included in the data. However, Trump’s recent attacks on democracy are nevertheless commented upon:
The question mark is obsolete.

In case you’re interested here are some graphs made from Varieties of Democracy’s web site that shows how Trump tried to autocratisise USA already in his first term.
The 2025 report did not cover Trump’s terrifying speech at the Department of Justice. In the speech he made it perfectly clear that he wants to silence critics. Persons and the media. In the speech, he named people who had critisised him in the past, calling them criminals and said that he was going after them. And he said that newspapers that critisised him are illegal.

Rumour has it that Trump has been talking to the illegitimate president and internationally wanted war criminal in the kremlin a number of times before Trump became president again.
Trump is about to rewrite history
Trump can’t handle the truth. The US economy is about to enter a recession. Trump will blame Biden and hide the truth. To do that he will go after the US statistics offices, resarch institutes, universities, econmists, statisticians, private consulting firms and anyone else that understands what is going on.
It will soon not be able to make the graphs I show in this post.
I could go on, but Trump is much faster demolishing USA than I am writing about it. It has no doubt become worse since I wrote this post.
