Spoiler: This is an update of my September 2020 post with the title shown above. At that time, veto data stretched until the end of August the same year. Since then, the little person in the kremlin bunker has ordered his thugs in the UN building to veto another ten UN resolutions. The vetoes are as usual attacks against human rights. But not only, muscovy has now begun to veto the climate.
Since my last post, muscovy has used its veto ten times. Twice about Ukraine. The first veto was cast to prevent the UN from condemning muscovy’s genocidal war against Ukraine including its cowardly attacks against defenceless civilians. The second veto was cast to prevent the UN from condemning the illegal annexations of occupied terrories.
But muscovy not only vetoes actions to prevent the UN from protesting or supporting civilians in danger from muscovy or its allies. muscovy now also vetoes the Climate. The resolution discussed the interrelationship between climate changes and security. Since muscovy economy is dependent on oil, this was of course unacceptable for them.
The latest veto by muscovy was cast to prevent an extension of the mandate for monitoring the effects of sanctions on North Korea’s nuke deveopment programmes.Since North Korea ships missiles and ammunition to muscovy, muscovy now helps Kim III, ruler of the Un-democratic People’s Monarchy of North Korea, to develop nukes.
For those interested in knowing more about the resolutions and the voting, the UN Security Council’s web sites have all the information you need. Data on voting is published a few days later then the documents. That means that their database, here, depending on when you visit the web site, does not include the vetoes from the latest UNSC votes. That is the case today. The database only includes votes from meetings until 22 March 2024 while meetings were held until 28 March.
Anyway, here are the vetoes. Between 2000 and today, 54 vetoes have been cast in the UN security council. More than half of them by the kremlin’s representtives, 14 by the CCP and eight by USA, the only democracy to veto during this time period.

Most of the vetoes have been cast to prop up the butcher Assad’s regime in Syria where Russia has a naval base. Arms sales to Syria and Syrian infrastructure projects added to Russia’s interest in preventing the murderer Assad from being overthrown. The Arab Spring in Syria began with peaceful demonstrations demanding free and fair elections and the civil rights that define democracies. After Assad had unleashed his troops and jailed terrorists upon the demonstrators, all hell broke loose and Russia decided to veto UN Security Council resolutions aiming to stop the human rights violations by the Assad regime.
The first veto in the in 2009 was used to prevent an extension of a UN peacekeeping mission in Georgia. And of course muscovy vetoed the Security Council resolution on the illegality of the mucovy’s annexation and mock referendum in Crimea. Since putin doesn’t want its military personnel to be held responsible for its crimes, the resolution calling for an International tribunal for prosecuting the perpetrators of the downing of MH17 was vetoed by muscovy. Syria is not the only dictatorship that muscovy supports. muscovy vetoed the resolution requesting actions against Maduro who has repeatedly attacked his own people and made his country a humanitarian disaster and also vetoed as the resolution aiming at stopping the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. And, as mentioned early in this post, muscovy also uses its veto to support the dictatorship run by the mass murderer in North Korea.

As I mentioned in the previous post about muscocy’s vetoes, a lot of the vetoes regarding Syria were cast to protect the perpetrators of the chemical-weapon attacks on civilians.
I will end this post in the same way as I ended that post.
