Sweden should leave the Ottawa Treaty.
Do not show mercy for those who have no mercy for others.
This is an English version of my op-ed in Kristianstadsbladet and Norra Skåne 24 April.
The Russian terror bombings with precision-guided missiles against civilians in Sumy were a “double-tap”. First, a missile was sent to kill civilians and then, after a few minutes, another one to kill rescue workers who had rushed to help. This shows that the wanted war criminal and illegitimate president of the fascist dictatorship of Russia has as deep a contempt for human rights as for international law.

Since 2014, and especially since the full-scale invasion just over three years ago, the Kremlin has unleashed a Tsunami of war crimes in Ukraine. Mass murder, torture and gang rape of Ukrainians speak for themselves.
The governments of the Baltic countries, Poland and now also Finland have drawn the right conclusions from the atrocities of the fascist regime in Ukraine. No Russian soldier will ever be allowed to set foot on their territories.
These countries have therefore left or are in the process of leaving the Ottawa Treaty. The Ottawa Treaty is a ban on anti-personnel mines. Russia has been using anti-personnel mines in Ukraine since the 2014 invasion. Just as the Soviets did in Afghanistan, the Russians have spread mines that have killed Ukrainian children who picked up some, believing them to be toys. Ukraine, which had signed the Ottawa Treaty, lacked anti-personnel mines at the beginning of the war, but has now left the Ottawa Treaty.
Those used by Ukraine are deployed effectively to make sure that only the Kremlin's fascists are hit. The Baltic countries and Poland have also acquired these mines, and cluster munitions, whose technical design minimizes the risk to civilians but effectively prevents the advance of fascist gang rapists.
Sweden should follow the example of these countries, leave the Ottawa Treaty and start manufacturing anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions. In the name of solidarity, part of the production should be sent to the above-mentioned countries to help them defend their children, women and men from the barbaric abuses of the Kremlin's fascist troops.
